GYM DESIGN #2: Medium Gym

Medium gym design

Concept:

~1,500 square feet

Square footage estimate:

Designed to work in spaces like apartment buildings, hotels and schools.

Use Case:

This medium size gym design uses optimal equipment while still incorporating a larger variety of equipment options. This design offers greater appeal to a wider audience and is ideal for a community that is often changing and might value a greater variety of workout options at different times.

DESIGN PRIORITIES

Consistency:

The boxing ring is the focal point and the “Fitness for All” guided workout program option remains.

User experience:

Creating the ideal atmosphere for the greatest possible variety of guests.

Inclusivity:

Ensuring that a community gathering area is included.

ELEMENTS INCORPORATED

  • Featured in the entrance is a small area that can be used either as a waiting room or an area to socialize and decompress before entering the gym or as a transition space before exiting the gym.

    • It offers a front desk to check-in.

    • Featured right off of the entranceway is a room dedicated to engaging community members with a long table for meeting and a juice bar. This room has a glass wall, making it feel more connected to the rest of the gym.

  • At the end of the hallway are two locker rooms that function as changing areas and incorporate showers and bathrooms.

  • A boxing area that features a room with boxing equipment and, on the other half, there is a ring with enough space around the circumference of the ring to include seating.

    • A built-in storage cabinet for the chairs that are used for events (hypothetical)

  • In the middle of the gym is a weight section that offers equipment that is set-up by muscle group (i.e. there is a “leg area”, “pull machines” in another area).
